India is outpacing the world in renewable energy adoption, said US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti on March 27, while adding that decarbonisation will create millions of jobs in India.
"I am so bullish on the opportunities that are here, not just for Indians, but for the world. I think India with the United States can be the twin pillars of green hydrogen in the world," Garcetti said at an event hosted by the US-India Climate Technologies Action Group in New Delhi.
By adopting decarbonising pathways, India could add millions of jobs in the next 20 years, he said. Calling the US-India ties a "limitless relationship that has never been stronger", Garcetti said the United States and India are the most important friends in the world.
"The two biggest democracies have never been so close. The friendship between the leaders is most consequential in a world of aligned democracies," he said at the inaugural session of the US-India Forum on Decarbonising Pathways. The forum provides a platform for private and public sectors to suggest steps on the decarbonising pathways.
India has set an ambitious target of having 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030. The country also aims to achieve its net zero target by 2070. The United States is collaborating with India in the fields of renewable and new energy, with projects and investments spanning from solar manufacturing, green hydrogen and zero-emission mobility.
The US ambassador also emphasised the importance of deploying clean energy in a reliable, affordable and predictable manner to support sustainable economic growth and protect vulnerable communities.
