Axis Bank open to working with Paytm if RBI permits, says MD & CEO Amitabh Chaudhry

RBI on February 1 barred Paytm Payments Bank Ltd from accepting fresh deposits and making credit transactions.

Private sector lender Axis Bank is open to working with Paytm if the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) permits it, said Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Amitabh Chaudhry on February 12.

"Subject to regulatory approval and if the regulator allows us to work with Paytm, of course we will work with them, they are an important player," said Chaudhry at the launch of the Axis Bank’s `2023 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500'.

Arjun Chowdhry, Group Executive, Affluent Banking, NRI, Cards and Payments, Axis Bank said that the lender is in conversation with Paytm but highlighted that the discussions are for general business and not specific to any business.

"We are having conversations with Paytm for our normal business services. Post the development that happened on January 31, we are discussing new things," Chowdhry said
