Apple, an American technology giant, is reportedly in discussions with Wipro Enterprises and Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW) for onboarding them as potential suppliers for its supply chain as it deepens its foothold in India.
These are the latest names to join the growing list of Indian players that the iPhone major is looking to onboard as suppliers, according to a report by the Economic Times (ET).
“Apple is in advanced talks with Wipro Enterprises and is in preliminary talks with Lakshmi Machine Works as part of their move to de risk their supply chain," a person aware of the development told ET.
Apple is in talks with these companies to supply parts and components for their supply chain.
Other Indian companies that have been onboarded or are in the process of being onboarded include Tata Group, Motherson Group, Aequs and Bharat Forge.
As per the sources, Apple’s talks with Indian players were a ‘clear signal’ of the tech giant deepening its presence in the country, even as uncertainty over US President Donald Trump's policies continue to simmer.
“By strengthening its partnerships with local suppliers such as Wipro Enterprise and Lakshmi Machine Works, Apple aims to reduce logistical risks, lower operational costs, and enhance supply chain resilience,” Dhruv Shekhar, senior associate at Koan Advisory Group told ET.
He added that with the Indian government now considering introducing an incentive scheme for electronic components, Apple is likely to deepen its local linkages. By doing so, it can reduce its overall cost of business in India while simultaneously fostering technological and financial growth for local ecosystem players.
