Assembly Elections 2023 highlights: Telangana campaigning ends; voting on November 30

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot exuded confidence that the Congress would form governments in all five poll-bound states, including Telangana, even though the BJP-led Centre was 'misusing' the central agencies against the opposition leaders. Citing feedback from the ground, he said the Congress is going to win everywhere.

"BJP has stated clearly that our government will come to power here and the CM will be from BC (Backward Class) community...BRS is going to get such a jolt on 3rd December that they will understand where does public stand," said BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis in Devarakonda.

"We are aiming for a century. Hopefully, we will have a century (victory on 100 seats). The public response is good wherever we go. "On November 30, people will vote for car symbol and make KCR the chief minister again," said BRS leader Mohammed Mahmood Ali on the last day of campaigning in the state.

On Rajasthan assembly elections, Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA Rajendra Rathore said, "...Ashok Gehlot rightly said there's an undercurrent...The undercurrent is to give a shock to the Congress. In villages, people were standing holding the guarantee cards with Ashok Gehlot's photograph saying that the guarantee card was a false pretence...Congress has moved towards the most shameful defeat so far. The results will be out on December 3. The CM talks about 'repeat', and I talk about 'delete'. The government is going to be deleted."

BRS MLC K Kavitha hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi saying that she would quit politics if the former AICC president proved that if one extra job was given in any of Congress-ruled states than in Telangana. Reacting to Telangana Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Bhatti Vikramarka signing an affidavit in a temple and swearing to implement the six guarantees to the people of Telangana, she said the grand old party makes very unreasonable and very absurd promises.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, "BRS and BJP have come together and doing politics...PM Modi accuses Rajasthan of paper leaks but Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana, all states are witnessing paper leaks..."

Twenty-three percent of the 2,290 candidates in the Telangana elections have declared criminal cases against them, stated a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR)and the Telangana Election Watch. This figure crosses 70 percent for candidates from the Congress and the BJP. The report also states that one-fourth of the candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore.

Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy said his party plans to rename Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar. He said, “Chief Ministers Yogi Adityanath and Himanta Biswa Sarma have already said that once we come to power, we will rename Hyderabad. Madras was renamed to Chennai, Calcutta was renamed to Kolkata, Bombay was renamed to Mumbai and we renamed Rajpath to Kartavya Path.”

Ahead of voting in Telangana, the Election Commission ended up suspending the Rythu Bandhu scheme for farmers due to the violation of the model code of conduct during the polling season,

"UP CM (Yogi Adityanath) came here (Telangana) and said it is time to use a bulldozer here. He can use 1,000 bulldozers but our one car is enough for them. We don't want to use bulldozers but want to ensure that tractors and harvesters are being used in our farms. We don't want to break a house. Rather, we want to build houses," said BRS MLC Kavitha Rao on Adityanath's "bulldozer is remedy for mafia in Telangana" remark.

Kharge has not read reports properly, said Keshava Rao on Election Commission's decision to withdraw permission to "Rythu Bandhu" scheme.

NRIs rooted in Telangana have returned to the state to join the polling campaign of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's party BRS, with the aim of telling their stories to the public and spread word about the development brought on by the current government.

The Congress has submitted a memorandum to the Madhya Pradesh chief electoral officer seeking action against the Balaghat collector for allegedly taking postal ballots out of the strong room and indulging in malpractice Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anupam Rajan on Monday denied the allegations and said local Congress leaders have expressed satisfaction at the procedure. Assembly polls were held in Madhya Pradesh on November 17.

-Congress, BJP and ruling BRS will be contesting the Telangana polls for a total of 119 state assembly seats. Currently, BRS holds 98 out of the total 119 seats.
-The results for all the five polling states will be declared on December 3.
-The Telangana assembly elections 2023 are the last polls to take place before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In the last set of elections of 2023, the fate of 679 total seats across five states will be decided on Sunday.
