“Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking." The immortal words of Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada always comes to haunt a fashionista when she picks a pretty floral ensemble from her closet. Trust actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja for giving two hoots to a trend that’s been done to death and wearing it in her own style.

Showcasing her impeccable sense of fashion at a recent book launch event in Mumbai, Sonam layered a floral ensemble, styled by sister Rhea Kapoor, to show her love for maximalist dressing, and creating a stunning look for the spring season.

The focal point of her outfit was a fringed jacquard print overcoat with detailed embroidery in lupin blue, which she colour-blocked with a pastel set. The soothing combination surely got her points for the daring experimentation, and the oversized silhouette added a touch of drama to the ensemble. Underneath the statement coat, Sonam wore a blush pink-toned set consisting of a ballet pink bralette and an embroidered organza slip skirt. The choice of these soft, feminine hues complemented the boldness of the coat, creating a balanced and sophisticated look.

To complete her ensemble, Sonam opted for pink leather pointed pumps from Jimmy Choo, enhancing the overall feminine charm of her outfit. She accessorized with statement pink earrings, adding a touch of glamour to her look. In terms of makeup, Sonam opted for a muted and minimalistic approach, embracing a soft Barbie glam aesthetic. Her makeup artist focused on achieving a clean, radiant complexion with subtle rosy blush and pink glossy lips. The softly winged eyeliner added a hint of definition to her eyes, enhancing her natural beauty. Sonam's manicure featured cherry red nails, adding a bold pop of color to her overall look and making a statement about the enduring appeal of this classic nail shade.

Taking a cue from Sonam’s style, here are some interesting ways to play with bold floral pieces this season.

Mix and match: Experiment with mixing different floral patterns together for a bold and eclectic look. Pair a floral blouse with a floral skirt or mix a floral top with floral accessories like a scarf or headband. Just ensure that the patterns complement each other in terms of scale and color.

Balance with solids: If you're new to wearing florals or prefer a more understated look, balance a floral piece with solid-colored items. For example, pair a floral dress with a denim jacket or a solid-colored blazer. This allows the floral print to be the focal point of your outfit without overwhelming your look.

Layering: Layering is key, especially during the transition from winter to spring when temperatures can vary. Layer a floral dress with a lightweight cardigan or denim jacket. You can also layer a floral blouse under a sweater or over a basic tee for added interest.
