Pet grooming in India has moved far beyond the occasional bath or fur trim; it has now a full-fledged lifestyle trend, driven by an increasing number of pet parents who see grooming as an essential to their furry companions’ health and happiness. With a booming pet care industry, urban grooming salons, mobile grooming vans, and luxury spa services for pets are mushrooming across cities.
As Indian pet culture continues to evolve, grooming is no longer seen as an indulgence, but as an essential aspect of responsible pet parenting. Think of it as a crucial part of your pet’s wellness plan. People are realizing that grooming is an amazing way to build trust and a positive connection with their pets.

Beyond health, a lot of pet parents are also embracing creative styling like 'teddy bear' cuts or pet-safe colours, but always with the understanding that safety comes first. Vishal Bhindora, Director of Zane's Cafe and Pet Spa in Mumbai, says, “It’s amazing to see how much pet grooming has changed. Pet parents aren't looking at it as a luxury or a treat, or even just a chore; it’s a wellness routine. We’re seeing a big shift toward a more mindful approach, where pet parents are bringing in their furry friends to a full spa experience, complete with all-natural shampoos, calming oil massages, and even stylish haircuts. Health-focused services are also a huge trend, especially with our climate. For example, medicated baths are a must during the monsoons, and de-shedding treatments are a lifesaver for our double-coated friends.”
Groomed and glowing:
Regular care is essential for dogs and cats because it prevents painful mats and keeps their skin healthy and free from rashes and infections. Vishal explains, “As groomers, we are often the first to spot a tick, a new lump, or a skin issue, which allows us to catch problems early." Beyond maintaining a healthy coat, regular nail trims prevent pain and posture issues, while clean ears prevent infections. It's all about keeping pets physically comfortable and healthy. On top of that, a good grooming routine builds trust and helps your pet feel calm and confident.
While home care is important, nothing beats a professional groom. A professional has the right tools and expertise for a deep clean and health check you can’t get at home, so it’s always recommended to make that a part of your regular routine.
Speaking about the best grooming tips for pets, Vishal says, “The best grooming tip I want to share is to be consistent. A few minutes of brushing every day is the easiest thing you can do to prevent mats and keep their coat shiny. After a walk, especially in the monsoon, always check their paws for cuts and wipe them down. It's also vital to keep up with regular nail trims, because overgrown nails are painful, and to clean their ears with a pet-safe solution to prevent infections.”
