Tattoos have been a part of our culture for long. Today they have slowly but surely shifted from being just a form of rebellion to becoming an integral part of self-expression. People of all ages and backgrounds are getting tattoos for various reasons; to mark significant milestones, display personal beliefs, or for aesthetic purposes.

As the tattoo culture continues to grow, there's a rising awareness about the importance of the choices you make, with regard to design and the materials used. With the increasing popularity of tattoos, a new trend has emerged; vegan tattoos. These use eco-friendly, non-toxic inks.

This shift aligns with a more conscious lifestyle, advocating for sustainability and ethical responsibility. “Choosing the right ink is as important as choosing the right design. With vegan and eco-friendly inks, you not only make a conscious choice for your body but also for the planet," says Saunak Roy, Tattoo Artist at Devil’z Tattooz.

When it comes to professional tattooing, besides the machine and sterile needles, the ink plays a vital role. “In the past, tattoo artists would craft their own inks, but today, tattoo inks are produced with carefully crafted formulas and ingredients,” says Roy. “Vegan and eco-friendly inks will slowly become a rage due to their health and environmental benefits,” he adds.

Roy suggests the following reasons why you should opt for vegan inks:

  • Health reasons: Vegan inks contain vegetable glycerin or plant oil, which makes them safer for both the client and the tattoo artist. For artists who handle these inks daily, the health benefits are particularly significant.

  • Environmental friendly: Vegan inks are cruelty-free, meaning no animal testing or animal-derived ingredients are used in their production. This eco-conscious choice supports sustainability and can also attract environmentally conscious clients.

  • Ethical responsibility: In India, there are no stringent laws regulating professional tattoo studios. However, it's vital for artists to adhere to international standards of hygiene and ethics, making the use of vegan inks an essential part of maintaining a reputable and responsible practice.

  • Rich colours: Many premium vegan inks are not only cruelty-free but also organic, offering vibrant and long-lasting colours. These inks heal well, reduce skin reactions, and maintain their pigment over time, offering a safer alternative to traditional inks.
  • Make a difference: Tattoos are more than just ink on skin; they’re a statement. As the number of people getting tattooed grows daily, it’s an opportunity to embrace trends that align with a more ethical and sustainable lifestyle. By choosing vegan and cruelty-free tattoos, you’re not just making a style statement; you’re making a difference.
