- Wearable art: When set in fine jewellery, it gemstones become an expression of individuality and sophistication. For instance, a ruby pendant against a deep blue or black evening gown instantly amps up a formal look. Also a set of emerald stud earrings paired with a crisp white shirt and tailored trousers bring a pop of colour and a touch of luxury to a workday outfit.
- Skin tone: Additionally, gemstones can also boost skin tones. “Warm-toned people often glow with golden-hued gems like citrine, topaz, or garnet, while cooler complexions are flattered by the icy brilliance of sapphires, amethysts, and aquamarines. Choosing the right gemstone can subtly add to your natural beauty while making a bold style statement,” says Poddar.
- Timeless appeal: Unlike fashion accessories that fade with time, gemstones hold their value for generations. “A well-maintained gemstone continues to sparkle, making it a family heirloom that can be passed down. A sapphire ring that once belonged to a grandmother, is a treasure, its deep blue hue still as striking as the day it was first worn, carrying stories and emotions through time," she says.
- Investment value: Precious stones like diamonds, emeralds, and rubies increase in worth over time due to their rarity and desirability. “For those seeking stylish yet affordable options, peridots, garnets, and citrines offer elegance without the premium price tag. A peridot bracelet worn daily adds a touch of freshness and vibrancy while remaining a budget-friendly luxury,” suggests Poddar.
- Cut and carat: Speaking about choosing the right gemstone, she says, “Consider the 4Cs: Colour (rich hues), Clarity (fewer inclusions), Cut (boosts sparkle), and Carat (rarity vs. quality). Verify authenticity with certification from a trusted jeweler.”
- Nature connect: Wearing a gemstone is like carrying a piece of nature’s history. “A moonstone ring, for example, glows with an ethereal light, evoking the magic of the night sky, while a turquoise necklace brings to mind the vastness of the ocean,” says Poddar.
- Rare gems: Some gemstones are so rare that they are owned only by a privileged few. “Take Burmese rubies, for example, coveted for their deep red hue, their scarcity has made them one of the most prized gemstones in the world. Wearing such a rare stone, whether as a ring or brooch, is an unmistakable mark of exclusivity and status.
