Weight issues can severely dampen the confidence of some people. The same happened with Varsha Bhide. For years, she loathed herself, felt underconfident in her skin and her mental health suffered too. She weighed 128 kgs. Losing the extra kilos required a lot of discipline, a sense of conviction in oneself and course correcting in a lot of departments.

Finding losing weight quite an impossible task, Varsha spent years in dejection. "For years, I lived my life feeling invisible. Apart from the weight issues, the emotional weight of feeling low all the times and not being able to express myself further aggravated matters for me. I suffered from anxiety, stress and low confidence. Besides, I led a sedentary lifestyle. I clearly could not find any hope in the situation I was in," shared Bhide.

From 124 kilos to 84 kilos...

Losing weight doesn't seem like an insurmountable task when one is surrounded by good folks and when self realisation happens. For Bhide, it was her mother who encouraged her to reclaim her life and write a new chapter. "My mother saved my life, literally. When I had completely given up on myself, she didn’t give up on me. She pushed me to try, even when I didn’t believe I could do anything to change my situation. I drew confidence from her confidence in me," Bhide narrated.

Speaking about losing 44 kg to become fit and healthy, Bhide mentioned that the transformation toom time. "Patience and consistency are two things that are a must when one is on a weight loss journey. The path to progress need not be perfect. What matters is that you show up everyday, even on days when you feel hopeless about your situation. I did all of this and today I can proudly say that every small effort I made during the journey paid off, and how!" Bhide expressed.

Challenges she overcame during the weight loss journey...

Bhide grew up pitying herself. What further took a toll on her confidence and mental health was years of body shaming and bullying that she was subjected to and endured for years. "I struggled with anxiety issues, stress, fatigue, and uncontrollable cravings. Breaking a sedentary routine and rebuilding belief in myself was harder than any workout and diet plan," Bhide told Moneycontrol.

The one hack that worked in Bhide's favour was the rule of consistency. "I didn’t rely on motivation. As it often happens, you feel motivated on one day and hopeless on other day. I just stayed focussed on consistently showing up. Even on days when things felt heavy, I showed up. Knowing that someone believed in me, and having the right guidance, helped me keep going," she shared.

Diet and workout plan...

Bhide joined FITTR for guidance on nutrition and workout. "My nutrition became structured, my workouts intentional, and my approach to losing weight sustainable," she said.
