We all know that cricketer Virat Kohli is a true Punjabi. He has to stay in shape for obvious reasons. This is why to resist quintessential Punjabi food like chole bathure must have been quite hard for the cricketer. However, he is also someone who has a strong will power. Apart from his on field journey, his fitness trajectory also bears proof of that. His disciplined approach to fitness is something we can all take lessons from.
Over the years, Kohli has shifted to plant-based food. You may be surprised to know that he's someone who eats the same meals everyday. He once mentioned in an interview that he can eat the same meals three times a day for 6 months without any issues. “Around 90% of my food is steamed or boiled, with just salt, pepper, and lime. I’m not someone who chases taste, I focus on what’s right for my body. I enjoy salads with a little dressing and pan-grilled dishes with some olive oil. I avoid curries, but I do eat dal, and as a Punjabi, I can’t skip rajma and lobhiya,” he had said.
In fact, once, cricketer's wife and actor Anushka Sharma had also shared that there was a time she had idli sambhar straight for 6 months. She had added nonchalantly that repeating the same food in meals is something she's absolutely okay with.

Moneycontrol's team spoke to Dt. Ginni Kalra, Head Dietician, Aakash Healthcare, to understand more about the concept of having same meals everyday and if it has any potential downsides. "Eating the same foods every day may not be as healthy as you think, your gut microbiome may not be happy. Studies show that your gut needs a variety of foods to maintain a healthy equilibrium. The healthy bacteria in your stomach require a range of nutrients to grow and thrive," dt Kalra said. She also added that if you are not careful, eating the same thing every day may result in nutrient deficiencies. "No single food item can provide all of the vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, and protein your body need. Lastly, you could become bored. Food boredom is real and some people are more prone to it than others," cautioned dt Kalra.
It goes without saying that Kohli surely must have the best advice of nutritionist and must be taking healthy, wholesome meals. However, those of us who are feeling inspired by what Kohli is doing must bear in mind what dt Kalra has warned of.
