  • Strength training and protein-rich meals rated most effective.
  • Nature walks and Pilates also highly recommended for wellness.
  • Cold plunges are optional and not essential for daily routine.

Wellness trends on social media can be both confusing and overwhelming. Given the hype, it’s also difficult to make out which ones to follow and which ones to skip. Dr Geetika Mittal Gupta, an aesthetic doctor and skin expert at ISAAC Luxe, shared her expert advice on seven wellness trends.

“Not every wellness trend deserves equal attention. As a woman over 40, I look at what actually supports muscle, metabolism, skin quality, sleep, and long-term health. Some trends stay. Some are optional. Some are simply overhyped,” she wrote.

1. Vibration plate: 7/10

According to the aesthetician, a vibration plate can help on days when you stand for long hours. It provides relief by improving blood circulation and reducing heaviness in legs. But she warned that it shouldn’t be a substitute for real training. She added, “I prefer it pre-workout for activation and post workout for recovery, depending on the goal.”

2. Pilates: 9/10

Dr Geetika rated it highly for helping improve the way she moved. Some of its benefits include better posture and stronger core control. Sharing her own experience, she said that it reduced stiffness after long clinic hours and made her strength training more efficient.

3. Nature walks: 10/10

Nature walks, also hyped on social media, got full marks for being “the simplest reset.” She shared how morning light regulates circadian rhythm and evening walks reduce stress more than intense cardio sessions at the gym. She added, “I run for fitness and I walk for balance.”

4. Strength training: 11/10

There’s a ton of talk about women and how they should strength train to prevent muscle loss. Dr Geetika rated it highly, praising it for changing the way one ages. “When I lift consistently, I feel stronger, sharper, and more stable. When I stop, my energy dips and my body feels softer and slower.” She emphasised how building and retaining muscle is essential after 40.

5. Red light therapy: 8.5/10

She praised this one for improving the skin, adding how it’s often called a skin “bio hack.” She explained that it works by using specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to boost the skin’s cellular energy. With consistent use, it may support skin repair, improve texture, and enhance overall skin health.

6. Protein-focused nutrition: 10/10

The Internet's going crazy over protein and for the right reason. It can be a game-changer, especially for those over 40. It provides steady energy, improves recovery, and increases performance. Protein-focused meals make the rest of nutrition easier to balance, according to the doctor.

7. Cold plunge: 5/10

This one got the least rating from Dr Geetika. She admitted that some might find it mentally rejuvenating, adding that cold exposure stimulates the sympathetic nervous system and temporarily increases stress hormones. While it may ease short-term soreness, it can also place additional physiological stress on the body. It can be done occasionally, but is mostly avoidable.

FAQs on wellness trends

1. What are the most effective wellness trends for overall health?

According to experts, practices such as strength training, Pilates, nature walks, and protein-focused nutrition are among the most effective wellness trends because they support muscle health, metabolism, posture, and long-term well-being.

2. Is strength training important after the age of 40?

Yes. Strength training helps preserve muscle mass, improve bone density, boost metabolism, and maintain strength, which becomes increasingly important as the body naturally loses muscle with age.

3. Does red light therapy really improve skin health?

Red light therapy may help boost collagen production, support skin repair, and improve skin texture by stimulating cellular energy. However, results usually require consistent use over time.

4. Are cold plunges necessary for recovery and wellness?

Cold plunges can temporarily reduce soreness and increase alertness, but they are not essential for everyone. Experts say they should be used occasionally rather than as a daily wellness routine.

5. Why is protein-focused nutrition considered important for health?

Protein-rich meals help support muscle maintenance, improve recovery, stabilise energy levels, and keep you fuller for longer, making it an important part of a balanced diet, especially after 40.
