Assamese singer and songwriter Zubeen Garg died on Friday, September 19, in a scuba diving accident in Singapore. The singer’s mortal remains were flown to Delhi and later transported to Guwahati on a commercial flight on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, the Singapore High Commission has released the Death Certificate of Zubeen Garg, which mentions "drowning" as the cause of death.
Assam has been mourning the loss of the ‘Humming King of Assam’. Hundreds and thousands of emotional fans gathered at the Guwahati airport and walked across the streets to Zubeen Garg’s house.
Additionally, a flock of fans gathered at Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex today to pay their last respects to Zubeen Garg.
When will Zubeen Garg’s final rites will held?
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Zubeen Garg’s final rites will be held at Kamarkuchi village on September 23 at around 8 am.
The CM talked to the media and said, “We will carry the mortal remains of Zubeen Garg from Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex at around 8 am on September 23 to the location of Kamarkuchi, where the last rites will be conducted. A state funeral will be held on September 23."

Before the last rites, Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains have been kept at the Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex for his fans and well-wishers to pay their tributes.
The Bogeswar Baruah Stadium was open all night on Sunday for the mourning fans to say goodbye to the singer one last time.
“More and more people wish to see our beloved Zubeen one last time, and we deeply understand these sentiments. Therefore, Bhogeswar Baruah Stadium will remain open throughout the night today for the public to pay their respects to Zubeen. Tomorrow also, the mortal remains of Zubeen will be kept at Sarusajai for people to offer their homage,” Sarma had posted on his social media.

Zubeen Garg’s Samadhi Khetra to be constructed
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has also announced that a Samadhi Khetra of Zubeen Garg will be constructed at the last rites site.
The CM announced, "The state government will construct a Samadhi Khetra of Zubeen Garg at that place. The state government has taken a proposal that we will carry the Bhasma of Zubeen Garg to Jorhat, and we will construct a Samadhi Khetra of Zubeen Garg at Jorhat.”
