Coincidentally, 2025 also marks 30 years of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), one of Indian cinema’s most iconic and highest-grossing films.

As part of the grand celebrations marking 200 years of the modern railway in 2025, Britain’s railway has partnered with India’s biggest film production company, Yash Raj Films (YRF), for Railway 200—a unique UK-India cultural initiative celebrating the unifying power of love.

Coincidentally, 2025 also marks 30 years of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), one of Indian cinema’s most iconic and highest-grossing films. A defining pop culture phenomenon for Indians and South Asians worldwide, DDLJ was extensively shot in the UK, including the legendary King’s Cross Railway Station, where the film’s lead pair, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, first met and later discovered their deep love for each other.

To honor this legacy, Britain’s railway and YRF announced their cultural collaboration on Valentine’s Day, highlighting the romance of train travel. As part of this partnership, YRF is bringing its highly anticipated stage adaptation, Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical (CFIL), to the UK. The musical will premiere at Manchester Opera House on May 29, 2025, and run until June 21, 2025. In a grand celebration of love transcending borders, immersive activations are planned at key railway stations in Manchester and London, reinforcing the timeless connection between romance and train journeys.

Directed by Aditya Chopra, the original filmmaker of DDLJ, Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical reimagines the classic love story for a global audience. It follows Simran, a young British Indian woman who is set to marry a family friend in India as part of an arranged marriage. However, her heart takes an unexpected turn when she falls in love with Roger, a British man, challenging traditions and expectations.

The musical boasts an entirely original score featuring 18 English songs, blending Eastern and Western influences. The creative team behind CFIL is a powerhouse of international talent—music is composed by Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani, with lyrics and book by Nell Benjamin (Mean Girls, Legally Blonde). The production is further elevated by choreographer Rob Ashford (Disney’s Frozen), Indian dance co-choreographer Shruti Merchant (Taj Express), scenic designer Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge! The Musical), and casting director David Grindrod of Grindrod Burton Casting.

A true cultural milestone, DDLJ continues to hold the record as the longest-running film in Indian cinema, screening continuously in Mumbai since its historic release in 1995. Now, with Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical, its legacy of love, longing, and cross-cultural connections is set to enchant audiences in a whole new way on the global stage.
