On late Thursday evening beloved actor–comedian Robo Shankar passed away in Chennai, aged just 46. Known for his quick wit and generous spirit, he had been diagnosed with jaundice earlier in the week and was also battling liver and kidney ailments.
On Thursday, 18 September, Shankar collapsed at his home and was rushed to a private hospital on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR). Doctors discovered complications involving his liver and kidneys; despite their best efforts, his condition worsened and he died at around 8:30 pm, as reported by DT Next.

Robo's rise to fame started on television, where his cartoons and effortless charm made him a household name in Tamil Nadu homes. He quickly made the switch to the big screen and competed with the biggest names.
In addition to appearing in popular films like Viswasam, Puli, Si3, and Cobra, fans adore his roles in Idharkuthaane Aasaipattai Balakumara, Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, Maari, and Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran. His ability to switch between TV and films with ease kept him in the spotlight for over ten years.
As the news spread, tributes poured in online from fans and colleagues alike. On X, one user wrote, “Heartbroken, he was such a nice person”. Another shared a clip from Maari with the caption, “had a chance to work with him and he was so kind and accomodative”. The sentiments were widely echoed by industry peers, who remembered him as a generous co-star and a man who could fill a set with laughter.
Kamal Haasan also took to X to pour his tributes for the late actor.

As per Hindustan Times, he is survived by his wife and daughter. The funeral will be held at his Chennai residence on Friday, where family, friends from the film fraternity, and scores of admirers are expected to gather for the final farewell.
