Actor and comedian Robo Shankar, a familiar face in Tamil cinema, passed away in Chennai on Thursday night. He was 46.
Earlier this week, Shankar fainted at his home and was rushed to a private hospital on OMR. Doctors later confirmed he was battling liver and kidney failure. Despite medical efforts, his condition worsened, and he breathed his last around 8.30 pm today.
From Stage to Silver ScreenRobo Shankar’s career started with television, where his sharp timing and quirky body language quickly won him fans.
His big-screen breakthrough came with Idharkuthaane Aasaipattai Balakumara and Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, before cementing his place in Tamil cinema with Maari and Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran.
Health Struggles— Kamal Haasan (@ikamalhaasan) September 18, 2025
A couple of years ago, Shankar was diagnosed with jaundice and was believed to be on the road to recovery. But sources close to the family say his health quietly took a turn for the worse. “It all happened so suddenly,” one insider remarked.

Robo Shankar is survived by his wife Priyanka and daughter Indraja, who also has acting aspirations. His funeral will be held at his residence in Chennai on Friday, with family, friends, and industry colleagues expected to gather for a final farewell.
The news has left fans and fellow actors shocked. For many, Shankar wasn’t just a comedian — he was the man who could light up a scene with a single expression. His passing marks a huge loss for Tamil cinema.
