Who was Priya Marathe

Actress Priya Marathe, known for her performances in shows like Pavitra Rishta, passed away in Mumbai on 31 August 2025, following a two-year battle with cancer. She died at the age of 38.

According to report by HT, the news of her passing occurred at 4:00 AM at her Mira Road home.

Her passing has left the television world and her fans mourning the loss of an actress remembered as much for her grace off-screen as her talent on it.

Born on 23 April 1987 in Mumbai, Priya spent her entire life in the city she loved — from school and college to a flourishing acting career. She began her journey in Marathi television, debuting in Ya Sukhanoya before gaining recognition in Char Divas Sasuche.

But it was her role as Varsha in Pavitra Rishta, opposite the late Sushant Singh Rajput and Ankita Lokhande that made her a household name across India.

Her performances in hindi TV shows like Kasamh Se, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, and Bade Acche Lagte Hain showed a quiet range and versatility. She was equally comfortable playing emotionally complex characters and dabbling in comedy, as seen in her stint on Comedy Circus. Clearly she didn't limit herself to one genre.

Her recent work consists of Jayastute, Bhaage Re Mann, Uttaran, and Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap, and even made appearances in films like Humne Jeena Seekh Liya and the Marathi feature Ti Ani Itar.

Her lastest Instagram post shared on 11 August 2024, was a throwback from a trip to Jaipur’s Amer Fort. Dressed simply, smiling brightly beside her husband Shantanu Moghe, whom she married in 2012, the caption read: "Amer Fort.. Jaipur #throwback. Awed by the hugeness and its intricacies.. @thefernjaipur, Travel partner @cleartrip."

Priya Marathe's journey has given a long lasting impression on the industry. She may have gone too soon, but her warmth, sincerity, and the gentle strength she brought to every role will long be remembered.
