Thalapathy Vijay and Genelia Deshmukh's romantic comedy Sachein returned to theatres in style on April 18, and how. The film’s nostalgic value and Vijay’s charm were always going to be the biggest draw, but an unexpected name emerged from the crowd, too — Rashmi Murali, a supporting actress from the original movie who was suddenly in the spotlight.
A Surprise Spotlight
Rashmi’s clips from the re-released version of Sachein hit social media in no time and piqued the curiosity of the moviegoers, whose only thought was, “Who is she?” This did not go unnoticed, and Rashmi herself was quick to respond in a video message on Instagram.

Years after the film's original release, Rashmi introduced herself in a fresh video and expressed her gratitude to everyone for their love for her character.
Sachein had been released over 17 years ago, and she said she was studying in college then, aged just 20. She now lives abroad with her husband and children and has transitioned to a life as an entrepreneur.
“The outpouring of love from all of you guys is really overwhelming,” she said in the video. “After all these years to be remembered for such a lesser role to be is nothing less than a blessing.”

The Return of Sachein
First released in 2005, Sachein was a commercial success and its college romance and peppy soundtrack resonated with audiences. With the 20th anniversary of the film coming in 2025, fans seeing the re-release have responded with enthusiasm at the chance to catch the movie once more.
Directed by John Mahendran, the film also stars Raghuvaran, Bipasha Basu, Vadivelu and Santhanam in supporting roles. Its soundtrack was composed by Devi Sri Prasad and continues to be a fan favourite.
So with its re-release, Sachein not only brought back memories but also gave one accidental star her moment—because no role is too small to be cherished.
