Vikram Bhatt, the director behind the 2002 horror film Raaz, has recently opened up about the emotional challenges faced during the filming of the iconic wedding song Main Agar Saamne. In an interview with News 18, Bhatt recalled a tense and emotional moment on set, shedding light on how the real-life breakup between the film's leads, Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea, affected their performance during the shoot.

Vikram shared an intriguing anecdote from the filming of the Main Agar Saamne song, where the on-screen chemistry between Bipasha and Dino was noticeably affected by their personal issues. He explained, “I remember a tragicom situation where we were shooting for their wedding song, Main Agar Saamne. There's this line in the song - Apni shaadi ke din abb nahi door hai - and it was during this scene that they were both fighting. I remember Bipasha crying and Dino unhappy.”

Vikram's advice to the alleged couple

The director recounted how the couple’s personal turmoil was evident during the scene, which was intended to be joyful and romantic. Bhatt was faced with the challenge of helping his actors overcome their tension to continue shooting. "I told them, 'Guys, you can't fight! We're shooting a shaadi ka song. Why don't you suspend the ceasefire for two days?'" Bhatt recalled. The actors took a break and had lunch together, allowing some time for the emotional strain to ease.

Vikram's take on actors' personal lives

Despite this, Vikram clarified that he didn’t delve deeply into the personal lives of his actors, preferring to keep things professional. "But yes, their relationship was falling apart," he admitted. "I'm not the kind of person who goes into the personal lives of his actors. So, I don't know what had transpired. Soon after Raaz, it completely fell apart." This candid insight into the dynamics on set showcases the challenges that arose during the making of Raaz, a film that would eventually become one of the most successful horror films of its time.

While Bhatt's revelation about the tense shooting conditions for the song is poignant, it’s also interesting to note that Bipasha Basu wasn’t initially the first choice for the role. Lisa Ray had originally been cast to play the female lead in Raaz. Bhatt recalled the initial casting process: "It was Lisa who was supposed to play Bipasha's role and we did one schedule with her and Dino. Unfortunately, she had some personal issues because of which she couldn't continue the shoot."

As the production faced a sudden change in casting, Dino Morea, who was dating Bipasha at the time, suggested her as a replacement. Vikram Bhatt explained, “He (Dino) said to me, 'Why don’t you meet Bipasha? She might be good for the film.' A senior colleague of mine, Robin Bhatt, also suggested her name.” After narrating the script to Bipasha,Vikram was impressed and offered her the role, which she eagerly accepted.

Bipasha Basu’s inclusion in Raaz would mark the beginning of her career as a leading actress in Bollywood, particularly in the horror genre. The film's success would cement her place as a prominent actress in the industry. Interestingly, Bipasha and Dino, though dating at the time, were not able to maintain their relationship, as Bhatt pointed out. Despite their strong on-screen presence, the emotional strain from their personal issues was hard to ignore.

Since their time in Raaz, both Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea have gone on to have diverse careers. Bipasha married actor Karan Singh Grover in 2016, and they welcomed their daughter Devi in 2022. Dino, on the other hand, has continued his work in film and other ventures.
