Shah Rukh Khan, the king of Bollywood, is adored by audiences not just in India but across the globe. For many, Bollywood is synonymous with Shah Rukh Khan.

However, do you know why Shah Rukh Khan had a brief stint in jail during the 90s? Let’s take a closer look at the full story.

WHY WAS SHAH RUKH KHAN JAILED?

This story dates back to 1992 when Shah Rukh Khan starred in the film Maya Memsaab. The film featured some of the most explicit scenes of his career, including nudity. A magazine later reported that the actor spent a night with actress Deepa Shahi to get more comfortable before filming those intimate scenes.

Maya Memsaab was directed by Ketan Mehta, with his wife, Deepa Sahi, playing the lead role. A report by Cine Blitz magazine suggested that Ketan Mehta wanted Shah Rukh Khan to spend a night with his wife, Deepa, in a Mumbai hotel to help them become comfortable with each other before filming the intimate scenes, including a nude scene.

During an interview, Shah Rukh Khan recalls this incident and says, "They put me on the cover of the magazine, and written a line that I had been physical with my co-actress. This one thing came out and i am like this is not true, so I called up this lady, and I said, you know, why have you written this? and she said, Shah Rukh its a joke. And I am like, So, is this a joke? but it's not funny. Lady, do you hear me laughing or joking? and I wasn't saying it like this, main dilli-waale ki Tarah baat krah tha" [I was talking like a dilli-waala]

He adds, "It wasn't her mistake I think, but she didn't understand what I was talking, I went there I fought, I beat up people, and I did some really really nasty stuff, which is a natural thing from delhites but they don't know in other parts of the country, it's considered nasty."

WHO LET SHAH RUKH KHAN OUT OF JAIL?

"So I behaved really badly, and I was jailed and Nana Patekar got me out and he was very sweet and on the weekend, there is an evening court that gives you a bail or something and I tried to be decent and I kind of have changed now, I try to be more Irish brother school educated than the delhi university waala hockey player." SRK concluded.

Shah Rukh Khan also shared that after being placed in a small jail cell, which had human feces in it, he became desperate and pleaded with the police to let him go. The cops eventually agreed, but not before asking for his autograph as a souvenir.

Two years later, Shah Rukh Khan apologized to the journalist after he was convinced that the journalist had not written the story and that the whole incident was a misunderstanding.

The explicit scenes between Shah Rukh Khan and Deepa Sahi in Maya Memsaab were removed from the film after the Censor Board raised objections. However, they were leaked online in 2008, sparking significant controversy. Despite the intense pressures and challenges over the years, Shah Rukh Khan managed to keep his temper in check and maintained his composure.
