Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s eldest son, Junaid Khan, frequently makes headlines for different reasons. He has already made his acting debut and is trying to follow in the footsteps of his father. However, Aamir once revealed the real meaning behind Junaid’s name and who had picked it.
An old video of Aamir talking about Junaid is resurfacing on social media. In the video, the actor recalled the story of how his family came up with his son’s name and who first suggested it.
In a throwback interview with Lehren Networks, Aamir shared, “Junaid ka matlab he ‘Warrior.’ It is an Arabic word. Jun spear ko kehte hei, bhala. Toh ladai mein jo sabse samne soldier hota hein, jo sabse jyada dangerous position mein hota hein, woh junaid hota hai (Junaid means 'Warrior'. It is an Arabic word. Jun means spear. So the soldier who is in the front line during a battle, who is in the most dangerous position, is Junaid).”
The actor further shared that his younger sister, Farhat Khan, came up with the name Junaid for his son. He said, “Mere bacche ka jo naam hein, woh sabse pehle meri choti sister jo he Farhat [Khan] unhone suggest kiya (The name for my baby was first suggested by my younger sister, Farhat [Khan]).”
He added, “Naam unhone rakha Junaid. Aur yakinan Ammi, Abbajaan bahot khush hai. This is the first grandchild. Pehla pota hai woh unke liye. Sabhi bahut khush hai family mein. Mein bhi bahot khush hu (They named him Junaid. And I am sure Ammi and Abbajaan are very happy. He is the first grandson for them. Everyone is very happy in the family. I am also very happy).”
The actor also admitted that it took months to come up with Junaid’s name.
The actor recalled, “Naam pe bahot discussion hua. Kahin mahino se hum naam dhund rahe the. Lekin finally ye naam hum sabko bahut pasand aya… (There was a lot of discussion on the name. We were looking for a name for several months. But finally we all liked this name very much).”
Junaid Khan on his father Aamir Khan’s acting footsteps
Junaid Khan made his acting debut in 2024 with Siddharth P Malhotra’s directorial film, Maharaj. The period drama is based on the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862 and initially faced delays due to a stay order issued by the Gujarat High Court.
Junaid played the role of reformer and journalist Karsandas Mulji, alongside Sharvari and Jaideep Ahlawat in the film and received rave reviews. However, he then starred in Loveyapa alongside Khushi Kapoor. Both actors were widely criticised for their performance.
