Waqt's 20th anniversary: Director Vipul Amrutlal Shah recalls when Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar were ready to wave off their fees

Filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah brought a powerful and memorable romantic comedy, Waqt: The Race Against Time, in 2005. Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar’s starrer film has recently completed 20 years since its release.

However, the filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah has recently recalled the behind-the-scenes details on the film’s 20th anniversary. He said, “While we were making Aankhen, I had discussed about a play which was written and directed by Aatish Kapadia, with Amit sir (Bachchan) and Akshay (Kumar). They both loved the story, and we decided to make this film.”

However, the filmmaker also acknowledged the support he received from both megastars, Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay, when he told them that he was turning into a producer.

Vipul Shah noted, “When I informed Amitji and Akshay about me turning producer with this film, both of them were willing to waive off their fees but me and my partner Mr Manmohan Shetty did not agree to it and paid them their remuneration but the fact that such big superstars stood by me and were even willing to waive off their fees, was a very touching and heartwarming gesture.”

Waqt: The Race Against Time was a notable film that launched Vipul Amrutlal Shah's career as a producer. He later produced several successful movies, including Singh is Kinng and Holiday: A Soldier Never Off Duty.

Meanwhile, the 2005 film marked the second collaboration of the director with the actors Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar. Vipul Shah collaborated with the actors for the first time for Aankhen, which received huge praise from the audience and the critics alike.

The film follows Ishwar Chandra Thakur, who is living the good life, content with his loving wife Sumitra and son Adiya. He was bothered by his son Adiya’s laziness and dependency. However, the Thakur family’s life changed with ups and downs when Adiya decided to marry the daughter of his father’s enemy.

However, Vipul Amrutlal Shah is now gearing up for the upcoming heist thriller, Hisaab, which has already excited his audiences ever since it was announced.
