Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is moving forward with the third and final installment of his acclaimed "Files" trilogy, originally titled The Delhi Files: The Bengal Chapter, now officially renamed The Bengal Files: Right to Life.
On September 5, 2025, the movie is scheduled to open in theatres. In response to tremendous public demand, the film's producers—Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi, and Agnihotri himself—decided to rename and reposition the movie.
This film examines the horrific communal violence that broke out in undivided Bengal in the 1940s and is the follow-up to The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022).
Important historical occurrences like Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots are given special attention. By calling these events a "Hindu genocide," Agnihotri hopes to use film to draw attention to this underappreciated but important period of Indian history.
Prominent actors Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, and Pallavi Joshi are among the film's strong ensemble cast members. The project has been successfully finished despite a number of production issues, such as security concerns that compelled the team to move filming from Kolkata to Mumbai. Agnihotri and his group are now prepared to present this gripping and historically significant story to viewers all around the nation.
A teaser for the film was released a few months ago, offering a gripping glimpse into its tone and direction. It featured veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty in a striking look—grizzled with a white beard, walking solemnly through a deserted corridor.
In the teaser, he is seen reciting the Preamble to the Constitution with a burnt tongue, adding a haunting and symbolic dimension to the narrative.
Starring Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumar, The Bengal Files: Right to Life was written by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi. The film, which is presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal and I Am Buddha Productions, carries on Agnihotri's distinctive storytelling approach, which blends emotional intensity with historical research.
