Actor-comedian Vir Das recently shared—and subsequently deleted—a post in which he explained his support for Air India, following criticism for praising the airline shortly after the tragic AI171 crash in Ahmedabad.

In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Vir recounted his recent journey from the UK to India with Air India and commended the airline’s crew for their service, sparking mixed reactions online.

His post read, "I flew Air India home from London. It was all great. The crew, happy to report, still the kindest in the sky. @airindia."

However, quickly after he shared the post, several netizens slammed him for supporting the airlines. Soon after, he then shared a clarification post why supported Air India. His post read, "I should clarify. I support the airline because I have very biased history with them. My grandfather worked for Air India. It is an airline with problems, I know. I have flown every circuit and every seat class through my career."

He continued pointing out about Air India's services being better than other airlines and wrote, "But as someone who is three world tours in and has flown every airline in every country make no mistake….no crew will judge you less, welcome you more, and it’s a shame that no one acknowledges their loss too in a tragedy. That warrants my support."

However, Vir Das soon deleted the post. This wasn’t the first time he had voiced support for Air India—following the recent tragic AI171 crash in Ahmedabad, he had also given a public shout-out to the airline in an earlier post on X.

Shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex of BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad's Meghani Nagar area, causing a terrible tragedy. Of the 242 people on board, 241 died in the accident.
