Vikrant Massey reveals he used to rent designer clothes for Rs. 60,000, says, 'my wife used to say ki kyu, woh poore mahine ka kharcha hai hamara"

Vikrant Massey has carved a niche for himself in Bollywood not just with his acting prowess, but also for being unapologetically real. In an industry that often thrives on appearances and curated images, Vikrant stands out as someone who is willing to break away from the norm and speak candidly about the realities behind the glamour.

In a recent podcast conversation with Rhea Chakraborty, the 12th Fail actor opened up about the pressures of keeping up with the Bollywood image game. He revealed that early in his career, he did attempt to fit into the glitzy world of designer fashion and red-carpet appearances, but quickly realized that it wasn't for him.

“There are days when I actually sit back and question my choices also,” Vikrant admitted. “There are days when I probably fall weak and sit with that thought for 2-3 days: am I doing the right thing, should I reposition myself in a certain way? Should I actually go out there and get photographed by the paparazzi? To each their own, voh zaruri bhi hai kyunki uska ek traction hai.”

Vikrant went on to detail his short-lived experiment with this side of the industry. For about half a year, he tried to blend in by attending parties and renting high-end designer clothes. However, the cost of these appearances soon made him question the practicality of it all.

“I tried for 4-5 months, probably half a year. I started attending parties and renting out clothes, but they are so expensive,” he said. “Itna paisa lagta hai ek hi baar kapde pehanane ke liye. Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 60,000 per day, per event.”

The tipping point came when his now-wife, who was his girlfriend at the time, brought him back to reality. Vikrant recalled her honest reaction to his extravagant spending on clothes for fleeting events.

“My wife, who was my girlfriend then, said, ‘Why? For 4-5 hours, you are wearing big designer clothes, woh poore mahine ka kharcha hai hamara.’ I tried and I failed and I realised how uncomfortable I was. I was not being myself. I was always conscious of wearing those ultra expensive clothes ki kuch ganda naa hojaaye because I had to return them.”

For Vikrant, the realization wasn't just about the money—it was about authenticity. He found that living up to that image left him feeling disconnected from who he really was. Stepping away from the pressure to constantly look the part allowed him to embrace a more grounded, honest version of himself—one that audiences have come to admire both on and off screen.

On the professional front, Vikrant Massey is continuing to shine. With several promising projects in the pipeline—including Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan alongside Shanaya Kapoor and a biopic where he will portray spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar—he’s clearly letting his work do the talking. He is also set to appear in Rajkumar Hirani's upcoming web series and is reportedly in discussions for a major role in Don 3 with Ranveer Singh.
