Vicky Kaushal recently shared an intriguing behind-the-scenes experience from his upcoming period drama Chhaava, where he plays Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, opposite Akshaye Khanna, who portrays Aurangzeb. The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, explores the intense historical conflict between these two towering figures. In a candid conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Vicky revealed that he and Akshaye had no personal interaction during their time on set.
The actor explained the reasoning behind their lack of communication, saying, "When we were shooting that scene, we exchanged no good mornings or goodbyes or hellos. He was Aurangzeb and I was Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and we went straight into shooting the scene. There was no communication as Vicky Kaushal to Akshaye Khanna." This deliberate choice to stay in character, without any friendly greetings or casual exchanges, helped maintain the authenticity and intensity of their on-screen rivalry.

Vicky further discussed the nature of their characters’ relationship in the film, highlighting how the story unfolds around the two figures never truly meeting until later in the narrative. "It took Aurangzeb nine years to find and get hold of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. So, a lot of the film shows his quest to find him," Vicky explained. He emphasized that while there are moments where their characters cross paths, the film is largely about the tension and anticipation of their eventual face-off. "There are some moments together, but the film is about them thriving to (meet each other), and that will leave you waiting for that face-off to happen," he added.
Director Laxman Utekar revealed an interesting tidbit about their on-set dynamics, noting that Vicky and Akshaye never met before the day of their intense face-off scene. "The day their scene together was to be shot was the day when they met each other for the first time and that too as characters," Laxman shared. This approach, where the actors stayed in character and did not interact outside of their roles, helped elevate the tension and power struggle between their characters, lending an authentic feel to their performances.
With Chhaava set to release on February 14, the film is already generating excitement due to its intense historical storyline and the dynamic between Vicky Kaushal and Akshaye Khanna. Fans are eagerly awaiting the dramatic face-off between these two iconic figures, which is sure to be a highlight of the film.
