Nafisa Ali Sodhi, a seasoned actress and former beauty queen, has always lived her life with grace, honesty, and quiet strength.
She reminded her followers of the bravery required to continue showing up when the going gets tough on Tuesday morning by posting a very personal health update on Instagram.
Nafisa, who was diagnosed with stage 3 peritoneal and ovarian cancer back in 2018, revealed that she is starting chemotherapy again, as surgery is no longer an option.
In the caption of her post, she wrote, “A new chapter in my journey from today. I had my PET scan yesterday… so back to chemotherapy as surgery is not possible. Believe me I love life.”
Along with this, she shared a quote that tugged at the heartstrings of her followers. “One day my children asked, ‘Who will we turn to when you’re gone?’ I told them, ‘Turn to each other. That is my greatest gift – siblings who share the same love and memories. Protect one another, and remember: your bond is stronger than anything life can bring.’”
It was a raw and honest moment — not one of defeat, but of fierce love, family, and resilience. And it’s exactly the kind of grace Nafisa has been known for, whether on screen, in public life, or in the way she’s faced cancer.
Many know her from her memorable role as Shivani in Life in a… Metro (2007), but her film journey began long before that, with a powerful debut opposite Shashi Kapoor in Shyam Benegal’s Junoon (1979).
She has collaborated with industry titans like Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra on films like Guzaarish, Yamla Pagla Deewana, and Bewafaa over the years, consistently giving her parts nuance.
However, Nafisa's tale is more than just a film. She has also been a political voice, running for office in the Lok Sabha from Kolkata and Lucknow before joining the Trinamool Congress in Goa. She has never hesitated to use her position to change things, whether in politics or social causes.
At home, she’s a proud wife to Arjuna Award-winning polo player Colonel Ravinder Singh Sodhi, and a devoted mother to their three children — Armana, Pia, and Ajit — who she says are each other’s anchors, just as she hoped.
