In an honest and reflective conversation with Ronak Kotecha on his YouTube channel Reviewron, Vashu acknowledged that the film’s failure still weighs heavily on him.

Producer Vashu Bhagnani has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his 2024 action film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which starred Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff.

In conversation with Ronak Kotecha on YouTube, Vashu acknowledged that the film’s failure still weighs heavily on him. He admitted it was a misstep, particularly when compared to the success and legacy of the original 1998 classic.

When asked about his thoughts on the reboot version of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan during a quick-cut interview segment, Vashu didn't mince words and implied that the project, looking back, didn't live up to expectations. “Bahut acchi film thi pehli waali, Amitabh Bachchan aur Govinda waali. Second waali theek nahi thi," he stated.

Vashu Bhagnani went on to admit that choosing to collaborate with director Ali Abbas Zafar for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was a major mistake. “I made the biggest mistake by making Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Part 2 with Ali Abbas Zafar. He didn’t understand the title. We got tired of telling him that this is a comedy film. You can add action, but at least make it an action-comedy," he added.

Ali Abbas Zafar's 2024 Bade Miyan Chote Miyan reboot sought to reinvent the classic as a high-end sci-fi action film. Even though the movie had a great first day, it was unable to maintain its momentum and soon lost favour at the box office. Despite having a huge production budget of Rs 350 crore, it only made Rs 111.5 crore globally and was eventually dubbed a box office failure.

On the other hand, David Dhawan's 1998 original version, which starred Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan in dual roles, was a comedy. Even though it was released with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, it was a box office success and is still a treasured piece of Bollywood nostalgia from the 1990s.
