‘The Office’ has been an integral part of pop culture and it has birthed so many iconic memes. From Michael Scott’s hilariously idiotic actions, to Dwight Schrute’s eccentric dialogues, the hit comedy sitcom has given us so much to laugh about. It launched the careers of Steve Carell, John Krasinski, and many more. It also earned 5 Emmy awards and 42 nominations.
The NBC TV show ended in 11 years ago yet it is still highly popular thanks to streaming services picking it up. It debuted on OTT with Netflix and then was taken by Peacock. According to Nielsen, it was the most streamed show in 2020 with more than 57 billion minutes viewed.
Due to the immense popularity of the workplace comedy, many spin-offs and reboots tried to match the charm of the original mockumentary but nothing ever really solidified into a watchable show.
Now, the creator of ‘The Office’, Greg Daniels, has reportedly taken it upon himself to make a ‘The Office’ reboot.
The untitled reboot exists in the same universe as ‘The Office’ but it will move away from Dunder Mifflin.
As per Peacock, “The documentary crew that immortalised Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”
The new series is set to begin production in July. It was also revealed that Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore will be leading the new cast. Details regarding what roles they will be playing and who else will be joining them are being kept under wraps right now.
“In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper,” said Lisa Katz, president of scripted content for NBCU Entertainment.
