Shama Deshpande opens up about her new show Udne Ki Aasha

Actress Shama Deshpande plays the role of Savitri Deshmukh in the show Udne Ki Aasha. The show, produced by Rahul Tewary Production, has been airing from March 12, at 9 pm on Star Plus.

Talking about the show, she says, “Rahul Tewary is like a family. I was associated with Rahul in his previous show Aashaoñ Ka Sagar Dheere-Dheere Se... The title of this show, Udne Ki Aasha, justifies flight and ascendancy.” She says that she loves playing the role of a grandmother. “I am playing a grandmother to Sachin (the hero). She is one of those women who is based in the interiors of a village in Maharashtra. Full of warmth and cordiality and dotes on her grandson,” she says.

Shama Deshpande emphasises the importance of her role in bringing authenticity to the show. “The essence of Savitri Deshmukh is deeply rooted in Marathi culture. The character base is Marathi and with me being a Maharashtrian, it was pretty easy for me to get the subtle nuances and mannerisms into the character.” The actress is also thrilled about the positive message that Udne Ki Aasha aims to convey to its audience.

Moreover, Shama is confident that the show will resonate well with the audience, given its relatable storyline and strong characters.

Shama had made her acting debut in the film Jodidaar (1997). Later, she worked in Kaho Na Pyaar hai (2000), Krishna Cottage (2004), among others. The popular TV serial actress was a part of Madhubala - Ek Ishq ek Junoon.

Talking about working with producer Rahul Tewary, she says, “Rahul, as I said, is a family member and we have known each other for a pretty long time.” Udne Ki Aasha promises to be a heartwarming series that not only entertains but also inspires its viewers to dream big and aim high. With its premiere on Star Plus, the show is all set to capture the hearts of its audience with its compelling narrative and powerful performances.
