Julie Bowen recently sat down for a conversation with a podcast channel. In the interview, the ‘Totally Killer’ actress spoke about supporting Sarah Hylad, who played Julie’s daughter in ‘Modern Family’ through an abusive relationship.
Bowen played it down by saying that any responsible adult would have done the same.
The podcast host told her that Sarah Hyland gives Bowen credit for saving her life after a violent relationship to which she responded by saying, “That’s very sweet of her. I was a responsible adult that happened to be around at the right time. But I mean, I’m sure another responsible adult would have done the exact same thing. I just love her.”
Bowen and Hyland played a mother daughter on the Emmy winning sitcom for 11 years. Julie discussed how she felt a maternal connection to all the child stars of the show including Nolan Gould, Ariel Winter, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, and Rico Rodriguez.
“I look at all of them like my kids. I love them,” she said.
She also revealed that Rico Rodriguez was very much like his character on the sitcom, Manny. She said that Rico was "always like an adult — a tiny adult.”
In 2014, Sarah Hyland filed a restraining order against her then boyfriend Matthew Prokop. He was accused of threatening her after their breakup and even choking her. According to court documents, Bowen supported Sarah and helped her “peacefully end the relationship.”
Their offscreen dynamic is not too far off from their onscreen one.
Ever since the show ended after an 11 year run, the fans have been wanting more and more. After the last season in 2020, the cast has remained close and they get together for several reunions.
At the SAG Awards, Jesse Tyler Ferguson teased a reboot by jokingly saying, “Is it too early to talk about a reboot? They made me park a mile away from here.”
Even though the show has ended, it is clear that the cast was an actual family.
