Filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie has revealed that the storyline for the highly anticipated Top Gun 3 is already in place and came together more easily than expected. Unlike the challenges faced during the development of Top Gun: Maverick (2022), McQuarrie said that the third installment’s plot wasn’t “hard to crack.”
According to director Christopher McQuarrie, the plot of the eagerly anticipated "Top Gun 3" is "already in the bag" and wasn't "hard to crack" like the first film in the series.
McQuarrie co-wrote and produced Joseph Kosinski's second movie, "Top Gun: Maverick" (2022). Tony Scott directed the first installment, which was released in 1986. Tom Cruise was in charge of both. The 56-year-old director, who frequently works with Cruise, claimed that the "framework" for the movie is already in place.
"No, it’s already in the bag. I already know what it is. It wasn’t hard," he said at Happy Sad Confused podcast. "I thought it would be, and that’s a good place to go from as you walk into the room going, ‘Come on, what are we going to do?’ And Ehren Kruger pitched something and I went, ‘Mhm actually,’ and we had one conversation about it and the framework is there. So, no, it’s not hard to crack. The truth of the matter is, none of these are hard to crack,” he added.
"It’s as you start to execute it, and as you start to interrogate it, as you start (to think) why these movies are made the way they are. It’s not the action, it’s not even the level of or intensity of or the scope and scale of the action (or) the engineering around the action, it’s none of those things, it’s the emotion," McQuarrie concluded.
Cruise stated earlier this month that talks are underway regarding potential "Days of Thunder" and "Top Gun: Maverick" sequels. "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning," McQuarrie's most recent film, is the eighth entry in the "Mission: Impossible" series. The movie, which starred Cruise, Hayley Atwell, and Pom Klementieff, opened in Indian theatres on May 17.
