Yuvasamrat Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi are all set to bring their highly anticipated film, Thandel, to the big screen. This love-action-drama is inspired by true events from 2018, when a group of Indian fishermen were captured and imprisoned by Pakistani authorities. The late Sushma Swaraj, the Former Minister of External Affairs, played a pivotal role in securing their freedom, tirelessly advocating for their release and ensuring their safe return home. After her passing, her daughter, Bansuri Swaraj, carried forward her mother’s legacy, making sure that all 22 fishermen were successfully brought back to India.
Director Chandoo Mondeti is set to depict this remarkable real-life incident on the big screen with his upcoming film, Thandel. The movie not only narrates the gripping story but also sheds light on the unwavering efforts of Sushma Swaraj and her family in securing justice.
In a bid to authentically portray these events, Thandel producer Bunny Vasu personally reached out to Bansuri Swaraj, seeking permission to use Sushma Swaraj’s name and incorporate real press conference footage. The family graciously supported the request and provided a No Objection Certificate (NOC), allowing the filmmakers to honor her legacy with accuracy and respect.
Upon receiving permission, Bunny Vasu extended gratitude and penned a note saying, "Heartfelt gratitude to @BansuriSwaraj garu for giving us the opportunity to showcase the remarkable work of your mother, the former Central Minister Mrs. @SushmaSwaraj garu, in bringing back the fishermen who were stuck in Pakistani jails in 2017 and 2018 in our #Thandel Your support in granting permission to share the names in our real, hard-hitting story of Raju and Satya means a lot to us.

Thandel features Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles, with Sundip R Ved portraying the antagonist. Since the release of its trailer, the film has garnered widespread appreciation from netizens, who have showered it with praise and best wishes ahead of its grand release. Alongside its stellar cast, Thandel boasts an exceptional technical crew, bringing together some of the finest talents in the industry. National Award-winning composer Devi Sri Prasad has composed the film’s music, while Shamdat takes charge of the cinematography.
