Amid an intensifying ₹30,000-crore property dispute and growing rifts within one of India’s most prominent business families, Mandhira Kapur — sister of the late businessman and Sona Comstar chairperson Sunjay Kapur — marked Raksha Bandhan with a poignant yet cryptic message dedicated to her brother.
She took to Instagram to share a nostalgic photograph featuring herself, Sunjay, and their mother, accompanied by deeply emotional words. “It’s taken me all day to write this, as today has been especially difficult. As Raksha Bandhan winds down, placing flowers near your picture, I tried to stay composed while Mum cried.”
Mandhira continued, “The thread that binds us, invisible yet strong, remains unbroken, as eternal as our memories. I relive the moments spent with you, and now, I find myself protecting what you would have wanted, and what Dad dreamed, though it was always meant to be the other way around. If you were still here, everything would be different, everything would be better, my dear Bhaiya.”
Her tribute grew even more personal: “Today, I tied a thread to the corner of your picture, gazing at your face—handsome, smiling, the brother who shared our dreams. You carried Dad’s legacy with strength; I know you would’ve kept building upon it. Protecting your memory is my sacred duty. We are brave, and I know you’ll continue to protect us. Raksha Bandhan reminds me that love transcends time. Our bond is unbreakable, forever intertwined.”
The post comes against the backdrop of mounting tensions at Sona Comstar following Sunjay Kapur’s sudden death in London. His mother, Rani Kapur, has publicly described his passing as “mysterious” and lodged a criminal complaint with UK authorities seeking a full investigation. In her first statement, she alleged being pressured into signing certain documents, facing financial restrictions, and harbouring concerns about the company’s legacy management.
Sona Comstar has rejected these claims, noting that Rani Kapur has had no role in the firm since 2019, and has issued her a legal notice over what it calls “false” statements.
Sunjay Kapur died on 12 June at Windsor’s Guards Polo Club. A post-mortem concluded he succumbed to natural causes — specifically Left Ventricular Hypertrophy and Ischaemic Heart Disease, conditions linked to an enlarged heart and coronary artery disease.
