Akshay Kumar’s much-anticipated action film Sky Force, releasing on January 24, has already made a significant impact at the box office with impressive advance bookings. The movie, which explores the heroic story of India's first deadly airstrike during the 1965 India-Pakistan war, is poised to capture the attention of both action movie enthusiasts and history buffs.
The film stars Akshay Kumar alongside Veer Pahariya, who is making his acting debut. Kumar portrays KO Ahuja, a dedicated Indian Air Force (IAF) officer, while Pahariya plays T. Vijaya, IAF Pilot who goes missing in action, driving the plot forward.
As Sky Force prepares to release amidst the long Republic Day weekend, the film has already garnered a strong buzz, reflected in its impressive advance ticket sales. According to industry tracker Scanilk, the movie has crossed the Rs 2 crore mark in advance bookings for its first day, with Rs 2.03 crore generated from 84,146 tickets sold across 11,041 shows.
The bulk of the advance sales came from the standard Hindi 2D format, which brought in Rs 1.95 crore from 82,110 tickets sold. With an average ticket price of Rs 223, the film is showing strong interest in this format. The Hindi IMAX 2D version also contributed to the total, earning Rs 7.44 lakh from 2,036 tickets sold at an average price of Rs 416 across 173 shows.
The buzz surrounding Sky Force is also fueled by its narrative, which highlights a lesser-known chapter from the 1965 war. The film, running for 125 minutes, has received a U/A 13+ certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), ensuring it is accessible to a wide family audience, with only minor disclaimers in Hindi and English. This makes the film not only an action-packed ride but also an engaging experience suitable for all ages.
With solid advance bookings and the appeal of Akshay Kumar in the lead, Sky Force is poised for a successful opening, capitalizing on the Republic Day holiday and the growing interest in patriotic and historical cinema.
