Kalpana Raghavendar's daughter denies suicide attempt

The recent hospitalization of popular playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar has been shrouded in speculation, initially fueled by reports of a suicide attempt. However, her daughter has refuted all the reports and said that her mother's condition is due to a drug overdose stemming from insomnia medication as per India Today Digital report.

On March 4th, news broke of Kalpana's admittance to a Hyderabad hospital, with alarming claims of a suicide attempt and subsequent ventilator support.

These reports rapidly spread, accompanied by rumors of familial discord, particularly a supposed conflict with her elder daughter, as a potential trigger.

However, on March 5th, Kalpana's daughter addressed the media, categorically refuting these claims. "My mother has no issues," she stated, "She is perfectly fine, happy and healthy." She went on to say that Kalpana, juggling a singing career with pursuing a PhD and LLB, had been battling insomnia. "To treat her insomnia, she took the tablets prescribed by her doctor," her daughter clarified. ( source: India Today Digital )
The daughter attributed her mother's hospitalization to a combination of stress and the prescribed medication, leading to a "slight drug overdose." She firmly emphasized, "This was not a suicide attempt, it was just a slight overdose of insomnia tablet." She also implored the media to "Please do not manipulate or misinterpret any news," highlighting the distress caused by the initial reports.

Addressing rumors of marital strife, Kalpana's daughter asserted, "My mother is fine, and both my parents are perfectly happy. Everyone in my family is doing well." She further reassured the public, "She will be back soon."

The incident unfolded when Kalpana failed to respond to knocks on her apartment door, prompting concerned residents and security to alert the police. Upon entering her Nizampet apartment, officers found her unconscious and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was placed on a ventilator.

Kalpana's husband, who was in Chennai at the time, immediately returned to Hyderabad upon learning of his wife's condition. Police officials are currently investigating the matter to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Kalpana's daughter reiterated her plea to the public, emphasizing that her mother's condition was solely due to an accidental overdose of insomnia medication. She urged everyone to "Please do not spread or distort any misinformation," and expressed confidence in her mother's full recovery. The family's statement aims to dispel the initial sensationalized reports and provide a clearer, more accurate understanding of the situation, focusing on the health challenges Kalpana faced rather than unfounded narratives.
