Actor Shilpa Shirodkar recently opened up about a bizarre and frightening rumour that once shook her family during the filming of the 1995 action drama Raghuveer, which starred Suniel Shetty in the lead role. Alongside him, the film also featured Suresh Oberoi, Sudha Chandran, Mohnish Bahl, Aruna Irani, Gulshan Grover, Prem Chopra, and Shilpa herself. During the shoot, a rumour circulated that Shilpa had been shot dead - a promotional stunt that caused chaos in her personal life.

In a candid conversation with Pinkvilla, Shilpa recalled, “I was in Kullu Manali. My dad was trying to call the hotel because we didn’t have mobile phones at that time. I was shooting with Suniel Shetty there. Everyone who was watching the shoot there kept thinking if this is Shilpa or someone else because they knew the news.”

She went on to describe the alarming moment she returned to her hotel room: “When I came back to the room, there were around 20-25 missed calls. My parents were worried, there was a headline in a newspaper that Shilpa Shirodkar was shot dead."

The shocking rumour, it turned out, was a marketing move. The film’s producer later clarified that it was meant as a promotional strategy — something Shilpa only found out about after the fact.

“When he told me, I was like ‘Okay’. Yes, thoda zyada hogaya. There was no PR activity or anything at that time. Kuch pata hi nahi tha na. I was the last one to know that something like this was going to happen. No one used to take permission at that time,” she explained.

Despite the chaos, Shilpa took the incident in stride. “The film worked well, so I wasn’t really angry,” she added.

Now, after years away from the big screen, Shilpa is set to return in Jatadhara, a pan-India supernatural thriller. The film explores mysteries surrounding the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple, blending myth and suspense. Starring Sudheer Babu and Sonakshi Sinha, Jatadhara also marks Sonakshi’s Telugu debut. Shilpa, fresh off her stint on Bigg Boss 18, plays a pivotal role in what promises to be a captivating cinematic comeback.
