Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore will be attending the Cannes 2025 for the screening of the restored version of Satyajit Ray's Aranyer Din Ratri. Her daughter Saba shared the latest update of the actress's trip to the French Rivera.
Saba Ali Khan took to her Instagram Stories on Saturday and shared a glimpse of her mother Sharmila and her sitting in a flight, as they leave for Cannes Film Festival being held from May 13-24.
She wrote in the caption, "Amma and I...going somewhere...?"

Excitement is running high as the restored 4K version of this iconic film is set to be showcased in the prestigious Cannes Classics section. Boasting a stellar cast that includes legendary talents like Soumitra Chatterjee, Sharmila Tagore, Robi Ghosh, Shubhendu Chatterjee, Samit Bhanja, Simi Garewal, and Kaberi Bose, the film remains a shining example of cinematic excellence.
The screening will be hosted by acclaimed filmmaker Wes Anderson, alongside Sharmila Tagore, director Dutta, and prominent figures such as Margaret Bodde and Shivendra Singh Dungarpur.
During an interview with ETimes, Sharmila spoke about the relevance of the film Aranyer Din Ratri. "It's one of my most significant films. And it's surprisingly contemporary, then and now. The themes remain relevant. Western audiences responded to it very positively when it was released, particularly because of its portrayal of class alienation and subtle commentary on cultural imperialism. The characters in the film seem to interpret even something as universal as a sunset through a Western lens. This creates a disconnect between them—the city-bred characters—and the local tribal inhabitants, the Santhals. The film explores that gap," the actress said.
