Shamita Shetty breaks silence on breakup with Raqesh Bapat, calls it an 'Erased chapter'

Actor Shamita Shetty has finally opened up about her much-discussed breakup with Raqesh Bapat, and her words are as clear as they are firm. The two first met eachother during Bigg Boss OTT in 2021, where fans rooted for their chemistry.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Shamita talked about her relationship with Raqesh calling it an  “an erased chapter” from her life, saying that what happenend inside the Bigg Boss OTT house wouldn’t have happened in the outside world.

"Please understand, when you’re locked up inside a house for so long, I think it is only natural for you to form such relationships. Because you look for support in your weak moments, you look for that closeness, which is very natural,  However, it wouldn’t have happened in the outer world because we are both completely different people. It is a chapter that is erased in my life." she said.

After Bigg Boss, Shamita and Raqesh carried their romance outside the house but eventually called it to an end in early 2022. At that time, Shamita confirmed the breakup with a social media note, asking fans to continue supporting both of them individually.

Reflecting on the independence part Shamita added, "I think that’s natural. Over time, you kinda get used to your ways, and you kinda know what works for you and what doesn’t. You don’t want to compromise it. As an independent working woman, I am not willing to compromise my peace just because you’re lonely sometimes. I think a lot of people get into relationships when they’re lonely. For me, to reach a stage where I became happy on my own, in my own space, it took me a while.”

"So, till I don’t find someone that I know respects my soul, I will not take it further.” she admitted, also acknowledging that relationships can often be emotionally draining.

On the work front, Shamita was last seen in The Tenant (2023) and recently she made an appearance with sister Shilpa Shetty on The Great Indian Kapil Show.
