Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have received interim relief from the Rajasthan High Court in a defective car case filed in Bharatpur. The court has put a stay on the FIR registered against them, offering temporary protection to the Bollywood stars.
The case originated from a complaint by a local car owner who alleged that he was sold a defective vehicle by Hyundai Motors. Since Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone were brand ambassadors of the automobile giant, their names, along with six company officials, were included in the FIR.
Challenging the FIR, both actors approached the Rajasthan High Court, arguing that their association with Hyundai was limited strictly to promotional activities. They emphasized that they had no role in the company’s manufacturing, technical operations, or sales. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal appeared on behalf of Shah Rukh Khan, while advocate Madhav Mitra represented Deepika Padukone.
During the hearing in Jodhpur, Justice Sudesh Bansal observed that the FIR lacked a concrete factual basis to hold the celebrities accountable.
Acknowledging this, the court ordered a stay on the FIR and extended relief not only to the actors but also to the Hyundai officials named in the complaint. The matter will be taken up again on September 25.
