Selena Gomez’s mother, Mandy Teefey, was recently accused of taking drugs at her workplace. One of her staff claimed that Mandy was seen snorting what they believed to be Ritalin at her Wondermind office in West Hollywood.
However, Mandy has debunked all the accusations in an interview with The Cut. Mandy said about taking drugs at her office, "Absolutely not."
She elaborated on the allegations about her behaviour at her mental-health company, Wondermind, and said, "I started Wondermind because I wanted to help people with mental illness.”
She continued, “It’s unfortunate that a few disgruntled employees with an ax to grind can spread lies about me and distort the truth. Even more disappointing that the media is willing to amplify their lies.”
The accusations came after several anonymous former employees shared concerns over Mandy's ability to run Wondermind, which reportedly laid off nine of its 15 staffers in May. One anonymous employee also claimed that she was taking Ritalin, which is a stimulant that is prescribed to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Mandy has previously admitted that she was diagnosed with ADHD, and the outlet reported that she has been prescribed the drug.
For the unversed, Mandy co-founded Wondermind with her pop star daughter, Selena Gomez, with beleaguered former co-CEO Daniella Pierson.
However, this is not the first time that Mandy and Selena’s mental health company, Wondermind, made the headlines.
Previously, Forbes reported in May that Mandy allegedly told Wondermind staff members that she had taken out a loan secured by her house to settle the company's unpaid debts because of purported financial difficulties.
Those debts included workers who had not received their most recent paycheck and freelancers and vendors who were waiting for unpaid invoices.
The Wondermind controversy came amidst Selena's preparation for her wedding to her fiancé, Benny Blanco.
