Comedian Samay Raina, the creator of India's Got Latent, is facing significant backlash after the latest episode featured crude remarks from social media influencer Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps. The controversial comments have ignited widespread outrage, placing Raina under heavy scrutiny for the content. As a result, his upcoming comedy tours and shows are now being affected by the controversy.
This incident has raised questions about the responsibility of show creators in managing sensitive material.
The comments, which revolved around sensitive topics like parents and sex, quickly went viral on social media and sparked widespread criticism. This controversy has resulted in multiple police complaints being filed in cities like Mumbai and Guwahati.
One of the major consequences of this backlash is the cancellation of Raina's upcoming comedy gigs in Gujarat.
According to the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), tickets for Samay Raina's scheduled performances in April were removed from the online ticketing platform BookMyShow.
The VHP claimed that Raina had planned four shows in the state: one in Surat on April 17, another in Vadodara on April 18, and two shows in Ahmedabad on April 19 and 20. However, by Wednesday, tickets for these events were no longer available for purchase, indicating that the shows had been cancelled due to public outrage over the controversy.
Hitendrasinh Rajput, a spokesperson for the VHP, pointed out that the tickets were available until the morning of Wednesday, but had since been taken down. He further emphasized that the cancellation was likely a result of the public's anger towards Raina. VHP regional secretary Ashvin Patel expressed gratitude to the people of Gujarat for their vigilance and asked organizers to avoid hosting events featuring individuals like Samay Raina in the future.
"In view of the anger among people, it appears organizers have cancelled Samay Raina's upcoming shows in Gujarat. We are thankful to the people of Gujarat for showing such alertness. I also ask organizers to refrain from organizing events of such people in Gujarat," Patel stated.
The controversy erupted after Allahbadia's remarks on India's Got Latent, where he made highly inappropriate comments that offended many viewers. While Allahbadia has since apologized for his “lapse in judgment,” the uproar has not subsided.
On Wednesday, Raina himself addressed the issue, stating on Twitter (now X) that he had deleted all episodes of the show and pledged to fully cooperate with authorities. An FIR has been filed against Raina, Allahbadia, and the show's team for broadcasting the allegedly "objectionable" content.
