Samay Raina postpones all his shows in India

Comedian Samay Raina announced on Thursday evening that he would be rescheduling his upcoming India tour.

The 27-year-old shared the news with his followers through an Instagram story, stating, "Hello guys, I am rescheduling my India tour. You all will get the refunds shortly, see you soon."

The announcement came after weeks of controversy stemming from comments made by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia on Raina’s YouTube comedy show, India’s Got Latent. Raina added a folded hands emoji to the post, indicating his gratitude towards his audience.

Raina, who has been touring in Canada, had initially planned to perform in Delhi and other cities as part of his India tour later this month. However, the comedian’s schedule has been affected by the backlash caused by Allahbadia’s inappropriate remarks during the India’s Got Latent show.

Allahbadia's comment on ‘parental sex’ led to widespread criticism, multiple legal cases, and eventually forced Raina to take down all related videos from his YouTube channel.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court heard a petition filed by Allahbadia over the controversy. During the proceedings, Justice Surya Kant referred to the incident and Raina's live show in Canada, mentioning that "these youngsters" think they are "an outdated generation" and remarked that they "don't know the jurisdiction which this Court enjoys." While the justice did not mention Raina by name, it was clear that the comments were directed at the comedian's handling of the issue during his Canadian tour.

In response to the controversy, Raina joked about the situation during his stand-up performance in Edmonton, humourously thanking the audience for "paying his legal fees" by attending the show. One audience member later praised Raina for maintaining his composure and entertaining the crowd despite the visible stress.

Raina concluded his performance with the line, "Shayad samay kharab chal raha hai mera, par yaad rakhna doston, main samay hoon" (Maybe my time is bad right now, but remember, my friends—I am the time).
