Salman Khan recently made a surprise appearance at the Bandra West Public Ganeshotsav Mandal, organised by BJP leader Ashish Shelar. The beloved actor, who’s currently hosting Bigg Boss 19, was seen offering prayers and seeking Lord Ganesha’s blessings as he gears up for his next film, Battle of Galwan.
Videos of his visit quickly made waves across Instagram, where fans shared videos of him posing with Ashish Shelar and being warmly greeted by the crowd. A few videos of Salman leaving the pandal also went viral, capturing the excitement and admiration of those gathered around him.
Away from the spotlight, Salman’s father, the legendary screenwriter Salim Khan, recently reflected on his long and unique marriage to wife Salma Khan (formerly Sushila Charak). In an open interview with the Free Press Journal, Salim Khan talked about how their interfaith union came and also shared stories from their early days together.
He remembered his childhood in Indore, growing up in a neighbourhood where people of different faiths lived side by side. “Hindu-Musalman ka masla hi nahi tha. Dosti thi, sab insaan the,” he said, explaining how his father, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, raised him with a strong belief in religious harmony.
But when Salim decided to marry Sushila, not everyone was immediately on board. While his own family offered full support, her father had concerns. “My father-in-law, a dentist, had investigated my background. He candidly told me that my religion was his only objection. I assured him that even if we had disagreements or fights, my wife and I would never have them because of religion,” Salim recalled.

He also shared an often-unknown detail about their family’s dietary choices: they’ve never eaten beef. “From Indore until today, we have never had beef. Beef is eaten by most Muslims as it is the cheapest meat! Some even buy it to feed pet dogs. But in the teachings of Prophet Mohammed, he has clearly stated that a cow’s milk is a substitute for mother’s milk and it is a mufid (beneficial) cheez. He has stated that cows should not be killed and beef is forbidden. Prophet Mohammed has adopted good things from every religion. Like eating only halaal meat which was adopted from the Jews, who call it kosher. He has postulated that every religion is good and believes in a Supreme Power like we do."
