Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who underwent surgery following a robbery attempt at his Bandra home where he was stabbed multiple times, is set to be discharged from Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the doctors treating him, Saif's condition has stabilized, and he will be released later today. However, they have advised that he continue to rest and take it easy for the next few days to ensure a full recovery. The incident has drawn widespread concern, but the actor's health is improving steadily.
On January 16, Saif Ali Khan was attacked by a burglar in the early hours of the morning while attempting to protect his home. The actor was stabbed six times, with two of the wounds being particularly severe due to their proximity to his spine. The incident occurred at around 2:15 am when the burglar reportedly broke into their Bandra residence, first assaulting the house help and then attacking Saif when he intervened.
According to media reports, doctors successfully removed a 2.5-inch knife from Saif Ali Khan’s wound during surgery. The actor, who has been transferred to the ICU for further observation, is now reported to be in stable condition and out of danger.
On January 20, the medical team made the decision to continue monitoring the actor for an additional day.
The Mumbai police have apprehended the suspect in Thane and revealed that he is a Bangladeshi national who had entered India illegally. The attacker, named Mohammed Shehzad, was a national-level wrestling champion during his time in Bangladesh.
In an earlier statement, Shehzad claimed that he was unaware of the actor's identity. He is currently in police custody after being presented in the Bandra Court on Sunday.
The accused's claim of being unaware of the actor's celebrity status aligns with the statement from the rickshaw driver, who also mentioned not realizing he was transporting a Bollywood star to the hospital. The driver further revealed that Saif Ali Khan's elder son, Taimur, from his marriage to Kareena Kapoor Khan, accompanied the actor to the police station.
