Over 48 hours since the shocking attack on Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence, Mumbai police continue their hunt for the elusive assailant. Despite intensive efforts, the accused remains unidentified, with new CCTV footage revealing attempts to mislead investigators.
Police suspect the attacker to be a “hardened criminal” after discovering that he changed clothes to avoid recognition. Initial footage from Saif's building showed the intruder wearing a dark, full-sleeve T-shirt. Later, cameras near Lucky Junction captured him in a light blue half-sleeve shirt, suggesting a deliberate plan to evade authorities.
The attacker’s movements also highlight his familiarity with the building’s layout. Police believe he gained entry by climbing through a narrow bathroom shaft leading to the 11th floor. After attacking Saif and escaping a confrontation with the family, the intruder used the same route to exit, evading capture.
The incident has exposed glaring security gaps at the upscale Bandra building. Despite housing high-profile residents, the society had inadequate CCTV coverage and lax security protocols. Vendors outside the building revealed that guards often allowed access without verifying identities.
Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from nearby railway stations and scanning databases of known offenders. Informers and history-sheeters matching the suspect's description are being investigated.
Bhajan Singh, the auto driver who drove Saif to Lilavati Hospital, described the actor’s state, “He was drenched in blood and could barely walk.” Singh realised it was Saif Ali Khan only when they reached the hospital, where the actor requested a guard to fetch a stretcher.
