Rupali Ganguly files defamation case of Rs 50 crore in HC against step-daughter Esha Verma, lawyer Sana Khan confirms

Anupamaa actress Rupali Ganguly has filed a defamation suit against her stepdaughter Esha Verma seeking Rs 50 crore in damages.

Rupali's lawyer Sana Raees Khan told Money Control, "We have filed a defamation suit in the High Court today to combat the malicious and calculated attempt to tarnish Rupali’s reputation through baseless and defamatory statements."

"No one can misuse public platforms to defame and degrade others without facing the consequences," she added.

Speaking further about the case, she said, "Misguided belief that foreign citizenship can shield a person from accountability is legally unfounded. Justice knows no borders, and the law will pursue those who misuse their privileges to commit offenses, regardless of where they reside."

The case is now subjudice and is anticipated to be heard in court soon.

Previously, Rupali issued a legal notice to Esha Verma, demanding a formal apology, monetary compensation, and the removal of defamatory remarks Esha had shared on social media. According to the sources, the situation escalated to a defamation lawsuit after Esha failed to comply with the terms outlined in the notice.

Earlier when Esha was sent to defamation case notice, he took to her Instagram story and stated, "Hi everyone, I'm Esha Verma, and earlier this month, I made the difficult decision to share my personal story involving my father and my experiences growing up. This decision sparked widespread attention across social media and the public eye. Speaking up was the hardest thing I've ever done, but it also became a turning point in my life. It brought clarity, peace, and liberation from years of silence. I was mindful of how this would affect not just me but also my friends and loved ones, and I handled it with the utmost care."

After posting that note, Esha Verma then restricted access to her Instagram account by making it private and removed a video after the actor served her with a defamation notice seeking Rs 50 crore in damages.

Esha Verma, the daughter of Rupali Ganguly's husband, Ashwin K Verma, from his previous marriage, currently lives in the United States. The controversy began when a Reddit post featuring screenshots of an old Facebook comment by Esha went viral. In the comment, she alleged that Rupali had an affair with her father, Ashwin, during his marriage to her mother, calling the actor "cruel-hearted."
