Actress Kajol, who is currently preparing for the release of her upcoming film Maa, recently opened up about her journey in cinema, her decision to carve her own identity without relying on her illustrious family background, and addressed the frequently asked question about whether her daughter, Nysa Devgan, intends to enter the world of acting.
While speaking at the News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2025 in Delhi on April 8, Kajol was asked whether her daughter Nysa Devgan had any interest in joining the film industry. In response, Kajol firmly stated, Bilkul nahi (Not at all).”
When asked whether her daughter Nysa might follow in her footsteps despite initially being disinterested—just like Kajol herself once was—the actress responded saying, "I think woh 22 saal ki hone wali hai abhi toh I think she has made up her mind that nhi aane wali hai woh abhi (I think she’s about to turn 22 now, so I believe she has made up her mind that she’s not going to join (films) for now)."
During the candid conversation, Kajol delved into her personal choices and the reasoning behind her professional identity. When asked why she opted to be known simply by her first name, despite coming from a celebrated film lineage, the actress explained that it was a deeply intentional decision.
"I wanted to be true to myself and I didn’t want the baggage of lineage, toh issi liye maine socha ki main sirf Kajol kay naam se jaani jaaun toh shayad itna pressure nhi aayega mujh par ( wanted to be true to myself and I didn’t want the baggage of lineage, so that’s why I thought I should be known only by the name Kajol, so that perhaps there wouldn’t be so much pressure on me)".
Meanwhile on the work front, Kajol will be next seen in the upcoming supernatural-horror film Maa, directed by Vishal Furia. It will release on June 27, 2025.
