Rishab Shetty's highly awaited directorial, Kantara: Chapter 1, is officially set to release on October 2, 2025, as announced by the makers on Sunday. This pan-India production from Hombale Films serves as a prequel to the 2022 National Award-winning Kantara, which was both written by and starred Shetty in a captivating lead role. Fans can look forward to exploring the origins of the gripping tale that captivated audiences nationwide.

The makers shared the announcement on its X handle along with the film’s poster. The caption read, "The moment has arrived. The divine forest whispers….. As per an official press release from the makers, the production team of the Kannada-language film meticulously recreated the historic Kadamba Empire in Kundapur, bringing its grandeur to life. "This intricate set, complete with detailed architecture and lifelike surroundings, is expected to transport audiences to a bygone time," they added.

Set in the dense woodlands of Kaadubettu in Karnataka’s coastal region, Kantara captured the essence of a small community’s life. Made on a modest budget of ₹16 crore, the film defied expectations by grossing over ₹400 crore worldwide. It received the National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, while Rishab Shetty earned his first Best Actor accolade at the 70th National Film Awards.
