Suriya’s Romance + action-packed Threesome Retro gears up for digital premiere After doing business in the theatres for 4 weeks, Retro the action and romance lover of Suriya is getting ready for his OTT release.
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, who also made his first collaboration with Suriya, Retro tells of Paarivel Paari Kannan, an orphan brought up by a gangster. In search of the truth behind his enigmatic past, Paari is forced to fight betrayal, a deviant religious order, and a prophecy that might forever alter his life when he tries reconnecting with Rukmini, the woman he loves and abandoned.
It came out in theaters on May 1, and the response to Retro was mixed, from critics and the public.
In a recent development, Netflix has been confirmed as the US distributor, with the film becoming available to stream from May 31.
Mixed reviews aside, Retro went on to become a commercial success, with a gross of over Rs 21 crore at the all-India box office. A big positive note to the film’s box-office numbers is the fact that Suriya donated Rs 10 crore, the profits from the film, to his Agaram Foundation, a trust that is involved in the promotion of education for underprivileged children.
Retro, which is being produced by 2D Entertainment (Suriya and Jyotika), jointly with Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Films, has an interesting line-up of actors in Pooja Hegde, Jayaram, Joju George, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, Karunakaran, among others.

The technical crew of the movie involves music composer Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer Shreyaas Krishna, editor Shafique Mohamed and action choreographer Kecha Khamphakdee. Costumes were designed by Praveen Raja, and Jackson was the art director.
Now, with an OTT launch around the corner, Retro is likely to attract a fresh set of fans, hungry to see Suriya in top form and Karthik Subbaraj in his element, on the small screen.
