Retro actor Suriya has recently talked about his acting skills

Suriya is enjoying a decent run at the box office of his recently released film Retro. The actor is widely promoting his latest film, which is facing strong competition from Nani's starrer HIT: The Third Case.

However, Suriya recently filmed a ‘rectangle table discussion’ with filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj and music composer Santosh Narayanan. During the session, Suriya talked about his film journey and revealed that he doesn’t think of himself as a great actor. He also compared his talent with his brother Karthi and noted that he can’t deliver performances like his.

The actor shared, “I am not a great actor, Karthik. Some people will call me an overacting actor…so many people will have that opinion. But, I stick to what I learnt from Bala sir.”

Suriya further insisted that he tries to give his ‘genuine best’ even though he’s not a ‘great actor.’ He added, “I’m trying my best, not every time it happens. I try my genuine best. Now, take a film like Meiyazhagan. I can’t be Karthi, I can’t be Meiyazhagan.”

For the unversed, Suriya made his acting debut with the 1997 film Nerrukku Ner, produced by Mani Ratnam. The actor has since starred in several hit films and received critical praise for his powerful performances.

Meanwhile, the actor starred in the 2024 film Siva’s Kanguva, which failed to receive the expected response from the audience. However, fans have been eagerly waiting for his 2025 film Retro, which is directed by his brother Karthi. He will be next seen in yet-to-be-titled films helmed by RJ Balaji and Venky Atluri.
